Piet Hein Eek - Turning scrap and wood into furniture

  I arrived three days ago from an amazing journey in The Netherlands, my birth place, where I go every year to visit family and keep the roots fresh. This year I've just been in a festival and apart that I dicided to do an artistic tour around that country that might be one of the most bases of inspiration for young artists, I discovered something...
  Piet Hein Eek, dutch plastic artist/designer, a very good friend of my brother and one of the most impressive creatives that I've ever seen. Piet works with scrap and wood and turn it into furniture, aside that  he works as well with old fashioned "stuff" as bycicles and many other objects, "his motivation arises as much from an obsession with time as a concern for resources". Now-a-days his factory and workshop is based in Geldrop (NL).

  In 1993 Piet started to create his collections and at the moment people imediatly wanted to have something that wah made by him, people didn't see his name anymore as an artist but as a brand, a nice gadget that you could buy... in spite of that "the brand" grows faster and faster, that is an important part of the work developped, because after all projects run the buiseness.
  Sustainability, creativity, avant-guard, that is Piet's work!

FNO & New York Fashion Week

  In September, when we already came back from summer holidays, we all get excited for the season that is coming on (thinking about the new collections at the stores and filling our closets with the new trend items). However, the Autumn/Winter trends don’t get all the attention – during this month the runway shows of the next Spring/Summer season take place on the fashion capitals.

  Last Thursday, September 8, the third edition of Vogue Fashion’s Night Out (second time here in Portugal) happened in 18 countries. The FNO consists on an after-hours shopping event in which the stores offer discounts, music performances, limited edition products, cocktails.

  The FNO Lisbon took place on Chiado, Rua Castilho, Av. da Liberdade and Príncipe Real. Unfortunately I couldn’t take any photos, but I had never seen Chiado so crowded! The event was great, I loved it.

  While we were getting ready for FNO, where we saw the new collections for Autumn and got the chance to buy some of the must haves of the season, New York was also getting ready for a new season – Spring/Summer 2012. How lucky are they?? Fashion Week shows during the day and to a perfect end Vogue Fashion’s Night Out on the Big Apple streets.

Until today, new yorkers and fashionistas from all over the world could see the spring collections from Alexander Wang, Diane von Furstenberg, Thakoon, Altuzarra, Victoria Beckham, Peter Som, DKNY, the Olsen sister’s brand The Row, among others.

  The New York Fashion Week ends on Thursday, September 15, with the Marc Jacobs show but on the following day London will get all the attention from the fashion world (from September 16 to 21). Meanwhile, we still have to see the collections from names like Carolina Herrera, Donna Karen New York, Rodarte, Tory Burch, Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors, Proenza Schouler and Calvin Klein.

  MOTELx - Lisbon International Horror Film Festival is an event for fraternizing and discovery, set-up for all those that are permanently looking for new auteurs, new films, new looks into the genre, and new experiences. 

  Without any kind of dogma or preconceptions, the program offers to the audience a selection of the films that have generated the most enthusiastic reactions all around the world in the last couple of years, in all possible variations of the genre – from supernatural to gore, from psychological horror to the monster movie, from blockbuster to indie, from classic to experimental, from cult to new tendencies.

  Inside MOTELx the horror experience is full, and besides offering the opportunity to watch films unreleased in Portugal, it is the place to get to know the directors in person, to participate in masterclasses presented by living masters, and to follow the exciting competition of the only Prize for the Best Portuguese Horror Short Film.
